Treatment For Acne Scaring

What is the Best Acne Scar Treatment for my Skin?

Acne is a reality of life.  While it is merely a phase of adolescence for some, the scars that the more serious cases leave can be a constant reminder to others about days of their teenage years that they would much rather forget.

If you find that you have suffered from acne scars, you probably wake up every day wanting to know, “What is the best acne scar treatment to rid me of these horrible marks?”

The best acne scar treatment you seek will greatly depend on what type of scarring you have suffered from.  Some acne scars are barely noticeable, but to the person that suffers from them, they are an eyesore that they would much rather have go away.  The treatments for more serious scars can be a lot more expensive and may need to be repeated in order to be totally effective.

Chemical peels are something that can be used for mild cases of acne scarring.  The process involves the application of acids that literally burn away the top layer of skin.  This is a very quick procedure, often lasting less than a half hour.  You can expect to have extremely red skin after the procedure has taken place with a recovery time of two weeks or less.

Shallow imperfections are the next level and the treatments are a little more dramatic for this.  Two of the more popular treatments for this are dermabrasion and laser resurfacing.  Dermabrasion is a process that uses a course wheel, usually a rotating diamond edged wheel, that is applied to your facial area.  Before you go into panic mode, you will be happy to know that they will use a freeze spray or numb your face so you do not feel this procedure as it happens.

Laser resurfacing is a very popular method.  This process uses a laser to remove layers of your skin.  In that aspect, it is very similar to a chemical peel, but a much more preferred method by many patients.  The area that has to be treated will dictate the length of the procedure.

Augmentation is used for the most serious of cases and it can be quite costly.  As the title of the treatment suggests, materials (such as collagen) are injected under the area where the scarring has happened and it will lift the skin up to the same depth as the rest of the face.

As with other collagen injections, there is very little recovery time and you can pretty much walk right out of the office with little to no pain.
